Dial-up > Passwords
The 'save password' field is grayed out

Sometimes the on the Connect to dialer screen, the save password field is grayed out resulting in forcing you to enter your dialup password every time you connect to the Internet. This is bug in Windows 95, 98, & ME. These steps will show you how to resolve this.

  • Click My Computer
  • Click Control Panel
  • Click Passwords
  • Click the User Profiles tab.
  • Select Users can customize their preferences and desktop settings.
  • Click Ok.
  • Reboot your system.
You will get a new Windows password screen while booting (just click "Ok" to get by this) and the "Save Password" selection in the dialer will not be grayed out any more.
